I’m really invested in Flamstead.. I visited Eric Edwards over 20 years ago and he kindly gave me a copy of his book which I cherished but it got stolen in a house burglary ( it was in a metal case with documents)…
My great great great grandfather was Uriah Coote, my great great was Joseph Coote ( sometimes Coot) and my great grandfather who died when my grandad was just a baby was George Coot ( Coote) he died in WW1… I was contacted years ago to add him to the Flamstead memorial but no excuses I was a busy mum, full time job and missed the deadline!
Hello again Tara, If you don’t mind, I’ll pass on your message to a local historian who has researched all the WW1 fallen from Flamstead. Sorry to hear about the book. I’m pleased to say that Eric is still active, although no longer engaged in “public life”.
Please contact me with any information or questions….I’ve visited Flamstead recently but got mixed messages…. I don’t want to buy there lol …..I just wanted to find out about my family….
I’ve been to gods acre years ago and seen Joseph’s and Elizabeth s grave but it’s so overgrown now and sunken you can’t see it!
Please help me.. my mum, uncle, aunts are all gone now.. so I can’t ask them…
I want to know how George Coot meet Amy Taylor from Balic St, central London
Hello Tara
I’ll send you a couple of extracts from Hertfordshire Monumental Inscriptions: Flamstead, published by the Hertfordshire Family History Society in 1988. This has a plan of God’s Acre at the time and a list of many of the graves, including several for the Coot/e family.
