From October 23rd to 25th, St Leonard’s bells were removed from their tower for the first time in 100 years. This event was newsworthy enough to be covered by both the BBC and ITV.
ITV Anglia covered the story in their evening news broadcasts on October 24th. You can view it here.
BBC News Hertfordshire covered the story on the BBC website and on BBC Sounds.
The bells, five of the six dating from 1664, are now with Whites of Appleton, Church Bellhangers, where they will be refurbished and retuned. This will make them sound even better and be much easier to ring when they return in early 2024.
