The third of the Flamstead Heritage / Flamstead Society expert lecture series for 2023/24 is on Monday December 18th at 7:30 pm in St Leonard’s Church, Flamstead. It’s to be given by Dr Irving Finkel and entitled “Board Games Old and New, Up and Down”. Dr Finkel is a Senior Assistant Keeper in the Middle East Department at the British Museum.

From our Flamstead Heritage facebook page:

“Did you know that the oldest board game was invented thousands of years ago? Well now’s your chance to hear from the man who managed to decipher its rules. They were written on a tablet by a Babylonian astronomer in 177 BC, using the earliest known writing system, which he translated! Dr Irving Finkel will be at St Leonard’s Church in Flamstead on Monday 18th December.”

Free entry. Donations appreciated. No booking. All welcome. See the poster for further information. And, as it’s nearly Christmas, a glass of bubbly and a mince pie will be available from 7:00pm.
